upamaa alankaara - part XV (types of धर्मलुप्ता)

क्रमेण धर्मलुप्तादेर्विभागोsथ प्रदर्श्यते|
पूर्णावद्धर्मलुप्ताsपि श्रौत्यार्थीति द्विधा भवेत् ||
तत्र श्रौती तद्धिते तु न स्यादन्वयहानत: |
( I will show you the types of all upamaas like धर्मलुप्ता etc. one by one.
Just like पूर्णोपमा, धर्मलुप्ता is also divided in श्रौती and आर्थी as well as वाक्य समास and तद्धितगा
but there is no form such as श्रौती तद्धितगा -i.e. there are only 5 forms possible)
Let's see them one by one.

1. श्रौती धर्मलुप्ता वाक्यगा
जलदो यथा तथा त्वं नाकिन इह केकिनो यथैव तथा|
जलधिर्यथा तथा त्वं नरा ननु सरिज्झरा यथैव तथा||
(Here there is use of यथा and there is no mention of धर्म, therefore it is श्रौती धर्मलुप्ता. And the upamaa is conveyed by वाक्य. Therefore it is श्रौती धर्मलुप्ता वाक्यगा alankaara.


2 श्रौती धर्मलुप्ता समासगा
चिन्तामणिधर्णीभृति रन्तारं भुवि जगन्नियन्तारम्|
चिन्तामणिमिव मनुजास्त्वां तावत्संश्रिता हरे सर्वे||
(चिन्तामणिमिव is example of श्रौती धर्मलुप्ता समासगा. because इव denotes श्रौती, there is no mention of धर्म like अभीप्सितदातृत्वम् therefore धर्मलुप्ता and चिन्तामणि is a समास therefore समासगा)


3,4,5. आर्थी धर्मलुप्ता वाक्यसमासतद्धितगा
वृषशिखरिशिखरधरणी सदृशी रमणीमणेर्मुराराति:|
मृगमदतिलकनिकाश: पुष्करिणी दर्पणीकल्पा||

वाक्य - सदृशी रमणीमणे:
समास - मृगमदतिलकनिकाश:
तद्धित - पुष्करिणी दर्पणीकल्पा



चित्रमीमांसाकार has also mentioned that the reduplication of words sometimes have धर्मलुप्ता in them. for its example eh gives the following example.

आभाति मधुरमधुरं स्वर्गादिफलं न जातु तन्मधुरम् |
फणधरधराधरधुरंधरं भजत तज्जनाश्चिरं मधुरम् ||
here the word which has द्विर्भाव is मधुर. It means that the thing which was not मधुर earlier became मधुर now. Thus here the word मधुर has been equated with the meaning मधुर. therefore it has to be धर्मलुप्ता.

But according to the author of रसगङ्गाधर, it is not proper. According to him, in this kind of usages there is usually also elision of वाचक also. Therefore it deserves to be placed in धर्मवाचकलुप्ता. If it is placed in धर्मलुप्ता category, the classification in एकलुप्ता, द्विलुप्ता and त्रिलुप्ता would be superfluous. (those who qualify for द्विलुप्ता and त्रिलुप्ता would automatically qualify for एकलुप्ता)
